How Long Does a Bathroom Remodel Take in Denver? Week by Week

Most Denver bathroom remodels take 3 to 6 weeks on site once work starts, plus 2 to 5 weeks of planning, selections, and permitting before anyone swings a hammer. The schedule is driven by three things that cannot be rushed: inspections, tile and mortar curing, and shower glass fabrication.

Denver Bathroom Remodel Timeline at a Glance

Powder room: 1 to 2 weeks on site. Hall or guest bath: 3 to 5 weeks. Primary bathroom: 5 to 9 weeks. Basement bathroom addition: 5 to 8 weeks because of slab cutting and below-grade plumbing inspections.

Before Day One: Design, Selections, and Permits

Plan 2 to 4 weeks for layout, selections, and ordering. Vanities, tile, and specialty fixtures should be on site or confirmed before demo. Denver, Commerce City, Thornton, Westminster, and Arvada permit reviews for a bathroom typically take 1 to 3 weeks when plumbing or electrical changes are involved. Starting demo before materials land is the single most common cause of a stalled bathroom.

Week 1: Demo and Rough-In

Protection and dust containment, then demo, usually 1 to 2 days. Discovery happens here: rotted subfloor under a leaking toilet flange, cast iron drains, undersized wiring. In Denver homes built before 1980, plan on at least one discovery item. Plumbing and electrical rough-in follow immediately.

Week 2: Inspection, Backer Board, and Waterproofing

Rough inspection has to pass before anything gets covered. An inspection reschedule is a hard stop of 2 to 5 days, which is why we book them early. Then cement board, a waterproofing membrane over the shower, and a flood test on the pan. Rushing this step is how bathrooms fail two years later.

Weeks 3 to 4: Tile

Tile is the longest single phase and the one most affected by your design choices. Large-format wall tile in a standard bath is 3 to 5 days of setting plus a cure day before grout. Herringbone, mosaic, and small-format patterns can double that. Floor tile, niches, and a curbless pan add days.

Weeks 4 to 5: Glass Templating, Fixtures, and Finish

Shower glass cannot be measured until the tile is set and cured. Templating to installation runs 7 to 14 days for frameless heavy glass, so this often extends the project past the point where everything else is done. Meanwhile the vanity, counter, toilet, mirror, lighting, trim, and paint go in, followed by the final inspection and punchlist.

What Actually Causes Delays

Late selections. Special-order vanities and tile with a 4 to 8 week lead time will set your schedule, not your contractor. Change orders mid-tile. Inspection scheduling around holidays. Backordered fixtures, still a real issue in 2026 for certain faucet and shower valve lines. And discovery in older homes, which is why a 12 to 15 percent contingency of both money and time is realistic.

Living Through It

If this is your only full bathroom, talk about phasing before you sign. We can often keep a toilet functional through most of the project and compress the no-shower window to about a week. Budget planning matters as much as schedule planning, so read our Denver bathroom remodel cost guide alongside this timeline.
